XR400 Frank Raines Beginner Rider
I take my 2000 Honda XR400 to Frank Raines OHV Park. I'm still a beginner off-road rider that still has a lot to learn about riding over rocks, going up hills, & riding ruts, etc. I did not see a lot of signage regarding trails, but that's only an issue for a beginner like myself. It was a tough day, but I think I learned quite a bit trying different trails.

KX450F Fork Rebuild
Переглядів 676 місяців тому
In this video I rebuild the air forks on my 2014 KX450F with fresh 5w fork oil. The rebuild process wasn't too bad at all, the hardest part was figuring out the seal orientation. I didn't make note in the video, but I wrapped electrical tape around the lower fork to avoid damaging the seal. Also, sure you have to the correct tools to make it much easier. This is not a "how to" but just a video ...
Carnegie SRVA - Practice Track - KX450F (Beginner)

This was actually taken a year ago, but finally came around to posting. I take my 2014 KX450F to the practice track at Carnegie SRVA (OHV Area). I just got my bike earlier in the year so I'm still a beginner. I'm still getting comfortable with jumps & turning the bike. The practice track at Carnegie is a great place to learn even though it's mostly dry & hard packed. The bike was having some is...
XR400 Exploring Knoxville OHV Trails

This is second part of the last video where I took my 2000 Honda XR400R to Knoxville OHV. I'm still learning to trail ride the bike, but it was a pretty good learning experience at the end of the day. The trails were rocky, but not too steep with not too many switchbacks which suited my skill level. A couple of times I felt the front end slide out, but the better setup(adjusted fork height & ne...

This footage was taken back in January 2023. In this video I take my Honda XR400 out to Knoxville OHV. Other riding areas were closed due to the record rainfall, but it was clear skies that weekend. It was the first time I really got to test the forks after changing out the springs and having fresh oil in them. Although the trails weren't as tough(it's pretty rocky, but hill climbs are not as s...

I keep falling on the XR400R, especially over rocky areas. I know a lot is due to not having a lot of experience, but I'm pretty sure it's setup related as well. Before this video, I have lowered the forks(previous owner had them really high) and lowered the front sprocket a couple of teeth. Both of these have increased my wheel base which has given me more stability, but there is still an unea...
Trail Riding XR400 Gone Wrong

I injured my ankle last week at the MX track landing on a jump on the KX450F so I decide to take my XR400 on some trail riding. It turns out that I don't have the best time, and I have a lot of skills to learn and suspension set up to do. Video is from November 2022.

This is the first time taking my KX450F trail riding at a local state park. I didn't realize trail riding could be so challenging but still fun at the same time. Also came across a learner's hill climb that was really fun. I didn't make it to the track they have there since I came late but will check it out next time.

These are clips from the first few rides on my 2000 Honda XR400R. It's my first time on a full-size dirtbike(I used to ride pitbikes a while back). It's been a while since, but if you're talking about the throttle cables, you just need enough play in the cable to slide out the barrels on the end. I may have messed with the throttle tube to allow more play.

That means you'll need to switch out the stator if you want to power Aux components. That stator will only run the engine.

Just going to check my FJ09 clearances so thanks for putting this up. Did you follow the detailed sequential procedure for loosening/tightening the cam cap bolts? Can I assume that the middle cylinder valves are partially opened when the crankshaft is set to the < position? Good vid, thanks again

    • @IsaacPel
      @IsaacPel Місяць тому

Yea I did, and I believe the cam caps are stamped with the order of the tightening sequence. And yes, there is some pressure on the valves when putting everything back together when lined up. That's why I needed to use a zip tie to hold the cam chain in place.

I use 1 quart, just pour the whole thing. It'll cover the whole sight glass at 1st, but after a while, oil will settle just below the top. Typically you want around 3/4th of sight glass covered. Also remember to drain from both bolts.

Not only is riding it a handful but now I can see the maintenance dollars adding up IF you can find a competent mechanic. I was in the same boat as you when I saw the miles getting up there(it does take time or lots of riding luckily). Just doing other maintenance like spark plugs and watching videos got me confidence to do it myself. Had to invest in tools though. And all these bikes with high reving engines have similar layouts and maintenance schedules. But yea, if wanting to get a mechanic, best to find a reputable shop, but usually that means having to spend some money.

The Virago is pretty similar but only thing that's sucks is the starter. As long as you have a good battery and connections you should be fine.
